Preparation is everything.  Questions to ask before you start looking for a house:

Ø     What city do you want to live? What is important to you?  School district?  Close to work?

Ø     Are you looking for a particular style of house? Do you prefer a house or a condo? How many bedrooms and
bathrooms do you want?

Ø     What is your budget for monthly mortgage payment?

Things to do before you start looking for a house:

Ø     Get pre-qualified by a lender to determine the maximum loan amount you can qualify.

Ø     Order a credit report to make sure that your personal information is accurate.

Ø     Go to open houses.  Look at a few different homes to give you ideas for things you would like in a house but have not considered.

Ø     Pay down debt as much as you can and save as much as you can for things you may need for repair after the purchase.  Do not make any major purchase or change employment.

Things to do before you sell your house:

Ø     Consult with a real estate agent.  Your agent can analyze the current market conditions, recent sales, and provide you with a realistic assessment of your home’s value.  Your agent can recommend strategies to prepare your home for sale.

Ø     Get your home ready for showing; clean up the clutter, put away personal items, fix and paint.

Ø     Arrange for open houses.
